Daily Echo 日常迴聲

This work includes a radio, a clock, and a microphone. The broadcasting program on the radio will be recorded and replayed in the next hour, at the mean time the radio keeps broadcasting the current program, and so on. During this process, each hour of the broadcasting from the radio will be mixed, but the further from the present, the content will be more blurry, and blended with the fluctuation and resonance in the space, just like the ripple. The clock ringing is the only constant sound happened in the same minute every hour. However, the clock sound will finally immerse into space and fade away with time. Inspired by the Alvin Lucier’s masterpiece "I Am Sitting In A Room”, combined with the concept of “domaine d’écoute” (Lin Chi-Wei, 2013), which indicates the sum of relations among the sound object, the listener, and the environment. I tried to extend the listening experience on the site by investigating the facts that the sound exactly exist in the space, transmit through space and fade with space. 

在空間中擺設一持續播放廣播節目的收音機、定時響鈴的時鐘與持續收音的麥克風。收音的內容會在下一小時於空間中被回放出來,而此時廣播則依舊播放當日節目,麥克風則再次將回放聲響與即時廣播內容錄製下來,以此類推反覆。在持續的錄音、回放之下,每一小時的廣播節目內容會混雜在一起,然而距離當下時間越遠,音量則會越小、內容越模糊,並且融入空間的共鳴與聲響。被定時的鬧鐘響鈴像是一個定位點,相對於廣播內容較容易被辨識,即使每小時的錄音與環境聲響有所差異,但鬧鈴卻總是在每小時的同一分鐘響起,一次次地回放,消融於紛雜噪音之中,隨著時間推展終至消失。 

本作品透過錄音與回放機制,彰顯聲音確實存在於空間、於空間中傳遞且流動的性質,並藉由一次次廣播內容與鈴響的疊加,製造有如漣漪一般的聲響效果:舊的錄音內容逐漸淡去,而新的內容則依次覆蓋上來。累積到一定時間後,回放的錄音內容在頻率與音量上將趨於穩定,此時我們可進一步去討論關於感知「節奏」的概念。 

當每日作品運作一段時間後,我們便可藉由疊加後難以辨識的抽象聲響,去理解不同時段廣播帶狀節目的性質與內容。而在錄音內容上,這些依稀可辨認的語句,似乎仍建構了一個濃縮的社會現實;日復一日的談話節目、音樂電台、新聞事件、廣告...被疊加起來,許多重複的關鍵字與常用詞此起彼落,攤平了每一天的差異,反映了某種當前的「日常性」。而強調了日常性,本身就是模糊了日常差異,讓一切都變的平淡無奇。人們尤是矛盾的,因為不想陷入這種平淡之中,他們會想辦法擺脫平淡,但歸根結底,這種頻繁的生活規律,即是人們自己創造的,是為了避免危險和混沌、不確定等因素。而一天又一天內容逐漸模糊,似乎也反映了現實中話題退燒的速度,以及人們對於議題的健忘。
